We know many of you have wondered why the cost of building our new animal shelter has increased from the original projections. We want to be transparent about where those additional costs came from.

Several factors have impacted the overall project:

• Inflation and rising construction costs — The cost of materials, labor, and construction has increased significantly since the project was originally planned.
• Purchasing the land — The property needed for our new shelter became an additional project expense.
• Utility connections — Connecting the new property to necessary utilities added costs that were not part of the original estimates.
• A slightly larger building — As the plans developed, we were able to increase the square footage slightly to better serve the animals and the people who care for them.
• Building code changes — Updated codes and requirements added necessary expenses to ensure the new shelter meets current standards for safety, accessibility, and animal care.

While these increases have been challenging, every decision has been made with the long-term needs of the animals and our community in mind. This new shelter is an investment in the future of homeless animals in our community—a safe, functional, and compassionate place where animals can receive the care they deserve.
